CALADE guided us through the introduction of SAFe® with expertise, without being dogmatic. Through hands-on training and coaching on equal footing, we were able to embed agile ways of working at scale. The improvements have proven to be long-lasting.

Scaling agile working methods at an automotive OEM

Our client was faced with the task of scaling agile working methods in product development.

Initial Situation & Pain Points

The introduction of an Agile Release Train (ART) based on SAFe® was intended to coordinate the work of 9 teams, break down silos and increase planning reliability.

  • Teams worked geographically dispersed - across locations, tools and time zones

  • Leadership, structure and role clarity were partially lacking

  • Agile working methods were established to varying degrees among the teams

  • There was no clear setup for overarching planning events

Our Approach

  • Support in setting up a scalable team structure with clear responsibilities

  • Introduction of an integrated toolset (Jira, Confluence, Miro) for the coordination and collaboration of teams and the overarching planning of product development

  • Moderation and facilitation of SAFe® events: PI Planning, PO Sync, Scrum of Scrums/Coaching Sync

  • Taking on the Scrum Master role in two teams, coaching and handover to an internal successor

  • Supporting other teams in the introduction and implementation of agile methods (Scrum & SAFe®)

Results

  • Development and successful launch of the Agile Release Train with over 70 employees

  • Significantly improved transparency and coordination in product development

  • Reliable, continuous sprint rhythm with clear goal orientation

  • Increased ownership and collaboration within cross-functional teams and between teams
